My Weight Loss Scenario: Need Best Weight Loss Advice for ME!?

I am 23 years old and I need to lose about 90 pounds to be at my ideal weight. In high school and through 2nd year of college I played volleyball and I danced (ballet/pointe) which kept me in great shape. I gained a lot of weight when I stopped to focus on academics and internships. I gained about 70 pounds. My senior year of college I lost 45 pounds in 3 months by working out diligently 5 days a week (35 min cardio and 20 min of machine weights and crunches). I got pregnant and gained back all my weight plus about 30 pounds. I breastfed and didn’t really lose much.

So now, I am 5’7" and about 265 lbs. However, people say that they can’t believe my weight because I am very solid/lots of muscle underneath all the fat. LOL.

Anyway, I know all the right things to eat to live a healthy lifestyle (did it for years). I am eating healthy now: rarely eat red meat (if I do 97% lean), chicken, fish, lots of veggies/fruits, and whole grains only. I drink about 2.5 liters of water a day.

I was in a depressed rut for awhile because I look so different post-pregnancy and I cannot fit ANYTHING in my closet. I do not feel like myself. So, I joined a gym and I am ready to get back on track.

My issue is that I have asthma and I don’t have the stamina I used to have and its frustrating. I used to do 30 min on the elliptical straight through. Now I cannot even go 3 min without feeling out of breath. But I know that is a great workout because it works me all over with little impact to my back and knees (big breasts). I have tried the stationary bike, but I am afraid that because I am able to go without stopping, that the workout must not be that efficient.

What do you recommend? I need a real good workout that I can do at this stage that will burn calories and melt pounds. How do I get my endurance and stamina back on the elliptical? I am so embarrassed in the gym when I have to keep stopping.

Please give me the best advice for my situation. Thanks so much! I appreciate thorough responses.

Depression – Need Help.?

At the age of 26 I literally suffer from Major Depression and was diagnosed 3 years ago. I have always been unhappy and have always had crying spells and fits since I turned around 12 or 13 but was never diagnosed until my senior year in college. I struggled to finish and get my BA then absolutely fell apart and didn’t work my first year out of college bc I couldnt leave the house and was extremely depressed and suicidal. I still have suicidal thoughts like now and need to get back to the dr soon to try another medication (they seem to stop working).

Now that I’ve graduated from college, I have anxiety about getting a job, i still live at home and my first job i worked at for 8 months but got fired bc I was forgetful (perm side effect from a former anti i took). Now that I’m looking for work I don’t have any interest in any area even my chosen field – no matter how wonderful the job i start to feel overwhelmed at it. Has anybody else had this problem and how do u make it go away?

Stressed about this…help, please!?

This isn’t a women’s health question, but I wanted to get a womanly perspective on this…mom doesn’t have an opinion and the guys in my life think that I’m being ridiculous. I’m turning 20 in October and I don’t have my license. I’m absolutely terrified of driving and I need to get it because I’m probably going to have an out of town/out of state internship next summer and will have no one to give me rides. When I was in middle school my aunt was killed by a drunk driver (I had to go on anti-depressants after this), the next year a friend was killed when a semi-truck hit the car she was riding in. Senior year of hs, another friend was killed in a car accident and this summer a girl I had known for years was killed as well. Other than not driving, I’m quite normal for my age, I’m a runner, I live in the dorms at school, get good grades, involved in my sorority and other groups on campus, have lots of friends. I fear screwing up in the car and causing someone else pain. Any advice?

How can I improve my diet and gain weight?

Hey guys,

I’m a rising senior in college and would like to improve my diet for several reasons. I’ve worked about about every day now for 8 years or so, so I’m in good shape but lately I feel like my body’s breaking down. I’m 5’11" and weigh about 135.

Ever since wrestling season my senior year in HS (3.5 years ago) I’ve struggled to keep my weight up. And whenever I DO put on weight I feel like it always goes straight to my stomach.

What’s the best way for me to put on weight and improve my diet so my weight goes to my whole body? I lift weights a lot also but for the last few years I’ve been strictly doing strength reps. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
