I'm not fat, but my stomach sticks outs like I'm pregnant but I'm not.?
I’m (almost) a 14 year old girl, and I’m wondering if this is normal or not.
I’m actually very muscular, like when I wake up and there’s no food in me, or when I tighten my stomach I have muscles there. I only weight about 100 pounds and I’m muscular and actually skinny all over except my stomach, most of the time, bulges out and it really looks like I’m pregnant. I do get my period regularly, and it’s all the time, not just when I’m on/near my period. I’m not sexually active, so there’s no way that I could be actually pregnant. I’m wondering if this is normal.. because my friends tease me about it, but I take it lightly, I don’t obsess over being skinny and being perfect like most girls. For the most part I like my body, so I don’t let it get to me. I’m not sure if it’s a gut.. because I do kind of eat a LOT. :P Or what..? If you need pictures I can provide them, but hopefully you get what I’m trying to say? Basically I look like I’m in the very early stages of pregnancy. So whats causing this and is it normal?
Hey, I said it before, I’m not fat, the the first person who answered. When I said I eat a lot, I meant I snack a lot. I eat small meals throughout the day. I’m trying to go vegetarian, so meat isn’t really isn’t an option. I’m also severely anemic, if that helps…?
I’m going to spare being modest because I just need to get my point across but,
I’m extremely active and muscular, so it’s not that I’m a fat lazy couch potato, I ride horses competitively, and the equestrian sports keeps me plenty fit, and on top of that I play hockey, so I don’t think it’s laziness.
Whether or not it’s normal depends on what’s causing it. It could be genetic. It can be hypercortisolism, or estrogen dominance. It may be something related to your spine/posture. You may be so skinny elsewhere that your lower abdomen appears puffy in comparison. Female hormones cause a tendency to store fat in the lower abdomen, especially if you don’t work out. If your core muscles aren’t particularly strong, it can cause your belly to look like it’s sticking out. It could be that something in your diet doesn’t agree with you. You could try an elimination diet to see if it deflates. I eat tons of cabbage/broccoli/cauliflower which bloat my lower abdomen HARD CORE. And the skinnier I am, the worse it looks. It’s good that you don’t obsess. If you are eating healthy food, taking a poo every day at least once, and don’t have excessive flatulence, you’re probably just fine.
14 yrs old + a gut = "most likely" you’re fat around the mid section… probably lots of sugar in your diet & pasta/bread. By the time you’re 18 at this rate your stomach will be three times the size it is now you eating will at least double and your activity will decrease dramatically. it all boils down to you’ll store more fat and your size will increase unless you stop the process by changing your diet, lifestyle, and habits.
Could be your stomach is allergic to something you are eating. Try cutting out anything with white flour. So no breads or pasta or at least cut it down a lot. You can eat rice and potatoes for carbs with meat. If your stomach doesn’t get flatter then it could be something else. Does your stomach hurt at all? Eat more yogurt. Yogurt has good bacteria that will eat bad bacteria that is in your colon. If this still doesn’t flatten your stomach then there is a possibility you have a parasite. I would definitely tell your parents to take you to the hospital. Tell the doctor your stomach bulges out and you don’t know why it sticks out so much. The hospital will test your stool (poop) for parasites or maybe give you a blood test. If it is a parasite then they will give you antibiotics to get rid of the parasites and your stomach will flatten out. ) So first try cutting out breads and pastas and eating lots of yogurt for snacks. If your stomach doesn’t flatten out in 2 weeks then talk to your parents and tell them you want to get tested for parasites because your stomach is abnormally sticking out. Don’t be scared, you will be okay it’s better to know the truth than to hide from it :) Good luck!
Im sure your not fat but at your age teenagers seem to grow in certain spots and then it will spread out and just move into your body and im sure it will become muscle also.
I don’t believe you have anything to worry about, just give it time.
If you are worrying about it they sell a belly band that you can wear and it will just pull your stomach in and also pull your muscles into place.
Your young so don’t worry.
Deb :)
